There is a lot going on any given day of the week here in Kennebunkport! Kennebunkport is your destination for Kennebunkport events as well as all Maine events.
After you've rested up from all the day's events of Harvest Fest, join us at The Waterhouse Center on Main Street for this fun NEW event. Be you Breather, Feral or Quisling; all are welcome!
Dress like a zombie, come ready to act like a zombie and play some zombie games. We'll lurch our way up to the Library for a group photo, look for some tasty brains on our way down Main Street south and then shamble our way back to the Center for an under-the-roof showing of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl."
By tradition, zombie walks are free events and food drives (see http://www.njzombiewalk.com/zombiewalk/The_Zombie_Walk) and ours will be too! We ask only that you bring non-perishables for people or pets (or both!) to help us fill the cars. Collected items for people will be delivered to the Community Outreach Services Food Pantry in Kennebunk which serves Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel. Items for pets will go to the Animal Welfare Society in West Kennebunk providing animal sheltering and adoption services to 21 neighboring communities.
We suggest you bring a chair for each member in your party because there is no seating in the Center and a blanket too in case there's a chill.
Picnics will be welcome OR you can purchase a "Zombie Special" boxed dinner – collect yours that night at Duffy's Tavern or The Kennebunk Inn. Visit http://www.kennebunkmaine.us and search "harvest fest" for meal details and pricing from each venue.
Questions? Call Teri Collard or Paul Coughlin at 985-6009.
Hope to "Z" you there!
Our Open House
As a museum of mass transit, we collect all types of vehicles. We have streetcars, interurbans, rapid transit cars, buses, trackless trolleys, work equipment, and freight equipment. On Transit Weekend, we bring out our rapid transit cars, buses, and trackless trolleys, which are not usually operating on a normal day.
Our bus collection is constantly on the move, with rides around the Museum as well as local bus trips around town. Mixed in throughout the day is the operation of our trackless trolley. This unique mode of transportation is a bus that uses overhead wires (like a streetcar) to power electric motors and they remain in use in only few cities across the United States. Being electric, it will seem odd sitting in a bus and hearing virtually no noise as you move down the road.
Also during the day’s activities, our rapid transit cars make frequent trips on our demonstration railway. This is in addition to the streetcar service provided normally. You will have the chance to ride on a subway train from New York City (two different vintages) or an elevated train from Boston.
Saturday lunch service provided by Ned's Bakes & BBQs.
